UNDERRATED MASTERPIECES:INTEGRITY-2000

Hardcore music has constantly evolved over the years, and some bands have left a lasting mark. Integrity, a powerhouse from Cleveland, Ohio, stands out with its unique mix of hardcore punk and metal. Their lesser-known gem, "Integrity-2000," released at the turn of the millennium, remains a significant moment in their discography. "Integrity-2000" marks a pivotal moment in their journey. The album not only reflects the band's evolution but also signals a shift in the cultural landscape of hardcore music around that time. When Dwid returned with Integrity he returned with a new lineup featuring members of Mushroomhead and together they created what I consider Integrity’s best record. Now this record is not for everyone who’s a fan of classic Integrity but this album shows how Dwid has an ear for picking very solid musicians that can write catchy yet brutal songs. 

"Integrity-2000" saw the band going for a more brutal groove-oriented style of hardcore as opposed to the classic crossover style everyone knows them for. The album not only reflects the band's evolution but also a shift in the cultural landscape of hardcore music around that time. With the popularity of Nu-metal it's no surprise there are some Nu-metal influences sprinkled throughout. Songs like “Falling Away” feature powerful riffs that balance brutality and groove along with Dwid and Jason Popson (Mushroomhead) trading lines back and forth giving it a thugged out vibe. Many fans during this era felt disillusioned as punk and hardcore began to morph.

While “Integrity-2000” did not receive the attention that other landmark albums did, it has forged a loyal following. Many long-time fans label it as a hidden gem within Integrity’s body of work. Its under-the-radar status only emphasizes the diversity and depth within the hardcore genre, where not every powerful release gets the spotlight. In today's music landscape, standout albums can easily be overlooked. “Integrity-2000” is a prime example of an underrated masterpiece that deserves greater recognition.
